Post GT850R or GT4088R? Reply with quote
So between homemade-wrx and i we are trying to rebuild my Evo again, we agree on one thing for sure at this point. Finish it so we can fly Dom out to tune our machines. What we are having trouble deciding is whether or not to aquire this new AMS creation GT850R turbo or to go with the 4088r i have on hand. i have a swapped subie wagon as well so i want to make that the nasty track/drag car in the future, and the evo is still nice with leather a/c and all so i dont want to break it pushing the motor to the limits day in and day out on the 40r (throttle control is the right foot, but it doesnt count if youre only concern is going fast...lol) anyway, so what does a concerned evo do? sell the 40r and get this elusive 850r, 'run what you brung' 40r? or even go back to the stock turbo with the bigger hotside? the car will be a built bottom end bored/stroked to about 2.4l, full catless 3" exhaust, meth, aem ems, 280 cams, lightly ported head with 1+ I&E valves, homemade-wrx is thinking about helping me with a manifold based on the turbo i end up picking (i.e. him and a friend fabbing me one). Let me know what you think or if i missed some holes in the story...

I still vote sell the 4088R...the 850R has already broken into the 9's @ 140+ on the first customer car.
The testing martin has done has also shown it to spool as fast as a 35r.

Great "big power" street power material if you ask me. BUT you already know my input as I told you about the 850R :p

still should go to 3.5" downpipe too.

i was hoping one of you to was gonna actually moderate, but i didnt think you were moving it here. anyway, id love to but between martin and this andrew f**k, no one is responding to emails and they dont put their phone number out on the site. So with customer service like that im fairly certain they can f**k themselves.

not sure how I missed all this stuff....

I have no clue about the 850R and it's capabilities. This is the first time I've heard of it.

9's is awful nice....

I hate jumping on the bandwagon of the GT**R turbos, I like outside the box thinking.

"Let me give you a little back story on this turbo that I think will help clear up some confusion:

We tested many turbos here in house and came upon a clear winner, what is now the GT850R.

When we finally decided on the current combination of CHRA, Turbine housing and specific anti surge compressor cover we placed our order for 25 of these turbos. At this point there was no name for this turbo. In fact it wasn't until over a week after we ordered this batch of turbos that Precision Turbo even gave this turbo a name.

So when we released it to the public there was no name for this turbo. Considering it had no name and that it was a very specific combination of our selected compressor cover and turbine housing we decided to name it as such. Thus the GT850R was born.

This brings us to present date......what is the GT850R???....quite simply it is its own turbo due to the uniqueness of how it is ordered and assembled.

If you want to break it down even farther than that it’s a 6262 CHRA with a specific Anti-surge compressor cover and turbine housing. The results are great as we have reported. Spool up just barely later then a GT35R and more power than a 37R......Sign me up!

I hope the clears up any questions on this turbo

Eric"

for a little more info on it....I've been following this turbo since they went public with these tests...I'm sure one of them will be landing on my car eventually.

very slick. Lags like a bitch on 2.0L, I bet it would be smoking sweet on a 2.5L!

lag is really only a conceptual problem for those who do any racing other than auto-x or daily drive

if the motor can spool the turbo and run it out of efficiency then it isn't too big...so then it comes down to staying in the powerband...

i would however love to see it on a 2.35 or "2.4l" though....but that will come in due time

eh, when you get back from the sandbox we'll be flying Dom out for a tune weekend (as I type this from his shop in Washington). The 10.5 turbo will be pissy but is violent right now. It has the powerband of a diesel :p
